I was really sad to come to the end of Winter's Orbit, but also very happy to reach the conclusion and unravel all the mystery and romantic tension. So glad we chose this as the readalong book for this month, because it's the perfect one to discuss with others! If you want to catch up, you can see my previous posts here: Week One, Week Two, and Week Three. Also, I feel it goes without saying, but please be aware that this post will contain spoilers for the entirety of Winter's Orbit. So, without further ado, let's look at the points of discussion Lisa at Dear Geek Place has prepared for this grand conclusion:
We've reached the halfway mark of Winter's Orbit by Evarina Maxwell, and things are definitely picking up the pace! If you're catching up, here are my thoughts on last week's reading, and here is the Goodreads page where you can find all the questions and other people's posts. Week three includes chapters 16 to 22, so please be aware that this post will contain spoilers up to that point and including earlier chapters as well. Read at your own peril!
Right, last week's post was a bit rubbish on my part but I'm setting out to talk about week two's reading ahead of time, so hopefully I offer something a little more insightful and do justice to the brilliant questions that, this week, have been posted by imyril over on the Goodreads page for the readalong. Things are getting more interesting after the introductory section of last week, and I want to take this moment to say that this post will contain spoilers for Winter's Orbit up until the end of chapter 15, so if you aren't there yet and don't like to know, please don't read ahead!
I love a readalong, and this year's choice for SciFiMonth - Winter's Orbit by Evarina Maxwell - made me very happy, since I'd been meaning to pick it up and now have an excuse. And what better way to read a book than with other people, and questions to prompt your thinking? If you want to find out more, and join in the fun you can find all the information with Lisa at Dear Geek Place - the master schedule, the current discussion questions, and more! And now, I shall actually look at what I thought of this week's reading, which includes Chapter One - Chapter Six, so beware of spoilers for that section!
It's the end! This has been a really fun read along, with some great conversations over on the Discord that Nils and Beth over at The Fantasy Hive created for it. My overall thoughts on The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty are a bit of a muddle - it was quite a slow-going first half, and the intrigue was enough to keep me going but not quite the right amount to have me stay up late reading. But once all the characters came together geographically, things became a lot more interesting for me, and this culmination was satisfying (if somewhat confusing) to read! You can see what my thoughts were for Week One, for Week Two, and for Week Three. Needless to say, my thoughts on this last section will include spoilers for the entire book, so please don't read on if you don't want to know!
I have been quiet on the blog... I'm back to being full time at work and my reading and writing have takes a backseat until I figure out how to balance my time properly, but I am still loving the Fantasy Hive‘s readalong of The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty! We're on week three now, which means only one more section left to tackle, and this week left me with a lot of questions... Dara and Nahri are in Daevabad at last, and things are definitely complicated... If you haven't already, you can read my posts for Week One and Week Two, but now let’s look at this week’s questions – please be advised there will be spoilers up until chapter 22.
Here we are folks, the second week of the Fantasy Hive's readalong of The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty, and the action is definitely starting! At the end of the first section, Nahri and Dara were in the middle of the desert, running from the ifrit and heading towards Daevabad in a tenuous alliance, while Ali, in the city itself, has found himself back in the palace, and in charge of the city guard. All three are hurtling towards situations they are not looking forward to being in, which makes this next part very interesting. You can see what my thoughts on week one were over here, but now let's look at this week's questions - please be advised there will be spoilers up until chapter 15.
I do love a read along, and this month I'm joining in with The Fantasy Hive as they read The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty. This was one that's been on my list to read for a couple of years, and this was the perfect excuse to finally pick it up! Please be aware… Continue reading Women in SFF Readalong: Week 1
