It’s my favourite time of year: there’s a chill in the air, slippers and blankets come out of storage, and it’s the perfect time to curl up with some darker stories. Enter Spooktastic Reads: your friendly Wyrd and Wonder mini event to celebrate all things dark in the fantasy genre for the 13 days leading up to Halloween! I am particularly excited because this is my first time taking part!
What is it and how can I join?
If you’ve been around for Wyrd and Wonder before, you’ll know that is a month long event celebrating all things fantasy, and Spooktastic Reads is a mini version of that, but it focuses in particular on all things dark and eerie within fantasy. It takes place from the 19th to the 31st of October, the 13 spooky days leading up to All Hallows Eve. Unlike Wyrd and Wonder, this is a very casual event, without sign up necessary. To take part, you just need to read, and shout about your bookish (or other entertainment formats) adventures online with the hashtag #SpooktasticReads and by tagging our @WyrdAndWonder accounts on Twitter and Instagram! And, this year, we also have photo challenge prompts to give you some ideas:

What counts as Spooktastic?
If you’re like me and don’t tend to dive into full horror, that does’t mean you can’t take part! Anything goes, as long as it’s got dark or supernatural elements to it. I haven’t put together a full TBR but as I start to plan it I’m considering some ghosts (Girl in the Wall by A.J. Gnuse), some necromancy (Saint Death’s Daughter by C.S.E. Cooney), and some dark forests (Into the Heartless Wood by Joanna Ruth Meyer) to carry on the Wyrd and Wonder theme from earlier this year! We also have Lisa @ Dear Geek Place doing some movie live tweets, so don’t forget to follow her on twitter to join in the fun!
In fact, to get the most out of this event, keep an eye on all of our accounts for news and updates, and any posts we might create during the event:

So grab a banner and plan your spooky reads!
This sounds like a really fun event. I’ll have to see if I can join in the fun. I’m not sure what I have going on those 13 days yet.

I hope you are able to! The nice thing about it is it’s really chill so even if you just end up chatting to people on social media about spooky reads you enjoy it should be a good time 😊

Awesome!! We look forward to having you join us, and I am sure that within those 13 days I will add so many books to my TBR based on what other bloggers are reading!

This sounds like fun! I had intentions of doing a li’l series on my blog next month about haunted houses…buuuuuuut I may’ve scared myself too much in the reading XD. We’ll see how it goes in the long run. Generally I have good intentions with something like this but, with it being seasonal and all and having Halloween on my mind, I may have to see if I can pull (at least some of) this off.

Oh, that would be interesting! It’s very relaxed anyway, so whatever you do will be enjoyed!
