Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted at That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic, and you compile ten books that fit the theme. You can find more information here.
Right-o, it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, so I’m excited to get back into it. I don’t always have a specific TBR that I function from, but to keep my NetGalley reads organised I do tend to tackle those in order of publication to make sure I get reviews out in time (I have failed a little the last two months because work but generally the system works) so I thought I’d use this as a chance to talk a little about some of the ARCs I have lined up, as well as a few of the books sitting on my shelves that I would really like to get to soon… I’m also not a season-based reader (though I like a happy coincidence) so most of these aren’t chosen specifically because *winter*.
NetGalley ARCs

Daughter of the Moon Goddess by Suen Lynn Tan – I think I first saw the American cover when this was announced earlier this year and it was so entrancing. The UK cover pictured here is also beautiful and I’m just really keen to read this retelling because I’ve heard a little about the original story in a few recent reads. (Pub date 20th Jan 2022)
Seven Mercies by Elizabeth May & Laura Lam – last month I read Seven Devils and have been thinking about it ever since so you know I’m going to read the sequel as soon as I can. (Pub date 20th Jan 2022)
Stars and Bones by Gareth L Powell – I have never read a Gareth L Powell book before and since this is a new and unconnected book (as far as I’m aware) it’ll hopefully be a good route into his writing because I’ve heard many good things about it. (Pub date 15th Feb 2022)
Age of Ash by Daniel Abraham – I am currently loving The Expanse TV show and have Leviathan Wakes waiting for me to pick it up, but I may just get to Daniel Abraham’s solo fantasy project before I get to his sci-fi co-creation. I keep thinking about this book and the fact I get to read it so hopefully it doesn’t let me down. (Pub date 17th Feb 2022)
The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh – another book where I saw the cover and was instantly in love. I keep forgetting what this is about but I’m sure it’ll be great! (Pub date 22nd Feb 2022)
Other Reads

The Devil and the Dark Water by Stuart Turton – I feel like this book has to be read in winter and I’ve been wanting to read it for ages so I’m aiming to priorities it – perhaps even curl up with it for my three days off during Christmas.
The Testament of the Stars by Alexandra Beaumont – the author kindly sent me a reading copy of her book and I am planning to get to it in the next month or so – it sounds like a wonderful concept and I’m really keen to read it.
The Bone Shard Emperor by Andrea Stewart – I know, I know: why haven’t I read this yet? I was tempted to start it immediately but I’m so drained and busy that I want to give it the time and attention it deserves. But it’ll definitely be soon. Soon, my precious.
The Village of Eight Graves by Seishi Yokomizo – this was sent to me by the UK publishers and I am very excited for some Japanese murder mystery vibes. Sounds like the holiday spirit to me…
The Colour of Magic by Terry Pratchett – I may talk about this more in a separate post but in the coming year I want to start making my way through all the Discworld books in order, so I’ll definitely be starting with the first one in Jan sometime. Stay tuned!
100% agreed that murder mystery is the proper vibe for Christmas.

Just wondering if you have indie novels in your mix, or are all the books in your TBR traditionally published? If you do review self-published novels, how do you choose them?
