Women in SFF: Lifetime Achievement Awards

The Fantasy Hive blog have an awesome Women in SFF feature, and July is the month for it! As part of this, there’s a really fun photo challenge, and we’re taking some of those to the next level! Today’s prompt is ‘Life-Time Achievement Award’ (actually, it’s yesterday’s prompt, but life gets in the way). We decided to do something a little different for it, and we set five categories and nominated a book, author, or character each. Here are our final choices, but we’d love to hear what you think!

Best Fight Scene

Ariana’s Nomination: Fitz and Nighteyes during the battle against the Forged Ones in Royal Assassin by Robin Hobb.

Gemma’s Nomination: the fight between Kaz and the Dregs in Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.

Best World Building

Ariana’s Nomination: after some deliberation (but not much) it has to be The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon.

Gemma’s Nomination: not hard for Gemma to choose the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling, the spark of her love of reading.

Best Character Arc

Ariana’s Nomination: recently the best one has definitely been Keyne in Lucy Holland’s Sistersong.

Gemma’s Nomination: Maddy Smith in Runemarks by Joanne M. Harris.

Biggest Plot Twist

Ariana’s Nomination: Legendborn by Tracy Deonn.

Gemma’s Nomination: King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo.

Best Villain

Ariana’s Nomination: The Lady from Jordan Ifueko’s Raybearer.

Gemma’s Nomination: Allegra from The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern.

What would you nominate for these categories? Are there any other awards you would have liked to see?
